According to legend…

Legend has it that the famous Extremaduran picotas, which every year illuminate the Jerte Valley with their white flowers, were planted there by a foreign king – it is even said that a Russian tsar – who came across the place by chance and was captivated by its beauty.

The king, the story goes, was married to a beautiful princess, also Nordic, who missed the snowy landscapes of her homeland very much.

So much so that the king decided to plant millions of cherry trees in the area so that, when they blossomed, they would cover the mountains with a beautiful white mantle.
